  • SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY 2026 Movie Review – Did Tenacious D Prophesize This Movie?

    Somehow Dis Drawma Kingg was not prepared for the level of drama in Spider-Man: Brand New Day! It’s not that I have a dramatic limit, just that I had my guard down for a 22nd movie (maybe it’s more than that by now) about insect people. The feels in this movie are NO JOKE! Derived from many mediocre Marvel Cinematic Universe installments, my only expectation was: “Sure hope this is at least a fun superhero movie.” Was it fun? Yes. Was it more than fun? Yes. Was it great? Read on to FIND OUT!

    Before I get into my critical points, I must talk about the prophecy of Tenacious D! There is an old live recording of Tenacious D singing about Spider-Man. It begins pretty much like the old famous Spider-Man song everyone knows, but then it goes into lyrics that kind of sound like they were just totally improvised on the spot. Jack Black may have written them out beforehand or perhaps written out some ideas that he would riff on somewhat improvisationally. I can’t confirm exactly how he came up with all of that. I’d like to think it was completely on the spot, because the song is funnier that way. Within these absurd and inappropriate lyrics, they mentioned that Spider-Man does a Matrix move! Now, many years later (SPOILER) Spider-Man absolutely does an unmistakable Matrix move in Brand New Day! What are the odds?! How did Tenacious D know that this was coming one day? Jack Black and Kyle Gass are pretty much the last two people on Earth that I would ever expect to receive any kind of divine futuresight. I will make no insensitive theological assumptions here. My assumption is that Tenacious D have a time machine and have hid it from the world for decades! SHOW US THE TIME MACHINE! Why is Robert Downey Jr. playing Dr. Doom in the next movie when there is a real-life actor that actually knows how to operate a time machine?! Well I guess hiding your technology from the world backfired on you, Jack Black. It could have been you that got the gig as Victor von Doom!

    Back to more critical matters, let’s talk about cameos vs. fan service. One complaint people often have with newer MCU movies is that there aren’t enough cameos from different Marvel characters. Is that actually a good thing? If someone is just thrown in quickly, many people will complain that it is tasteless fan service. I can’t say for sure who is right and who is wrong in this general argument, but for movies based around large comic-book universes, I personally support many characters in one movie. The difference between a standalone comic book and connected universes like Marvel and DC is the fact that these characters can cross over in fun ways. Spider-Man: Brand New Day really feels like a Marvel Universe movie! As a long time comic book reader, I loved this aspect of the film! With that being said, there were two characters that I felt were not emphasized as much as they deserved. First, we obviously have Scorpion. He was teased many films ago and did not get a costumed appearance until now. Due to the long wait, Scorpion deserved to be a stronger opponent with more interesting motivations. The other character (SPOILER) was Yelena Belova/Black Widow. She kind of just shows up to have two conversations with Spider-Man. Yelena is actually one of my favorite MCU characters, so I was very happy to see her show up. Quite unfortunately, she is not integral to the plot in any way, feeling more like fan service than an appropriately written cameo. Conversely, The Punisher got completely adequate screen time, a fitting way to bring him into the movies since he originated in a Spider-Man comic. This installment becoming a bit of a Spider-Man and Punisher team-up movie was really exciting to me. I also liked the montage scene where Spider-Man fights a number of villains. I’m pretty sure one of them was Tarantula, a personal favorite who is a little more obscure than his main villains.

    Did Tenacious D Prophesize This Movie?: Option 1 – Yes, if they don’t have a time machine (though I believe this would have been by total accident and not divine intervention). Option 2 – Not really if they do have such a device.

    Final Thoughts: 9/10 Crowns. I almost want to rate it even higher. On a superhero movie only scale I would definitely give this movie a 10 out of 10. I was absolutely dying watching this movie, in a good way. There was friendship, loss, romance, and heartbreak. I can’t think of a single other superhero movie that made me feel this much throughout the whole experience. Spider-Man: Brand New Day probably makes it into my top 3 movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is probably my favorite Spider-Man movie ever! Now I gotta go find Jack Black to interrogate him about his time machine! Though if he really does have a time machine, he’ll always be precisely ONE step ahead of me!

  • ROCKY 1976 Movie Review – Is It Worth Watching?

    Will the villain be papery in nature? This was my first thought as I began to finally watch Rocky from 1976. Turns out, the movie had NO VILLAIN! Apollo Creed was an opponent (that was human and therefore not made out of paper * Editors Note: I good at deductions), but there was no actual villain for Rocky to defeat. Arguably, Rocky’s boss could be considered a villain who is neither emphasized nor stopped in his dastardly ways. Our protagonist doesn’t really defeat any bad guys and appears to be heavily involved in crime himself. Wait, is HE the villain? Does he defeat himself in the end? Dis Drawma Kingg just realized that my tardiness to watching my first Rocky movie is likely to make me sound painfully ignorant to the average person, as almost everyone but me has already seen one or more of these. It’s been 50 years since release! Rocky did all that training, and I couldn’t even get off my couch and rewind a VHS tape and put it into my VCR? Something is wrong with this picture. My life, not the movie.

    Rocky was genuinely a good movie, however I’m gonna start talkin’ about somethin’ else now. There was this one time, what feels like oh so long ago, where I was in an argument with the local shop employee of Products Inside. I can’t remember what started the interaction, though my instinct is that it was a disagreement on price of a Surrealdreamcaster video game console.

    Drawma Kingg: Why are you making it so difficult for me to accomplish anything today?

    Products Inside Employee: I am sorry, Mr. Dramatic Sir, we cannot sell you this miscellaneous product for this miscellaneous price.

    Drawma Kingg: I saw you sell one to Sharon last week for this price.

    PIE: You’re making that up! I don’t even know any Sharons!

    Drawma Kingg: Saw you sell one to Jon a few days ago fer even lower.

    PIE: Which John? There are 46 Johns in our town!

    Drawma Kingg: Jon No H 17. Everyone ‘round here knows JNH17.

    PIE: Argh! It’s true! Take the miscellaneous product for the miscellaneous price! I will not admit to offering a discount to Sharon though! Her infant son beat me at a game of Go Fish last November!

    Drawma Kingg: Sharon is not the problem. The problem is you keep repeating that story to people.

    I hope this little anecdote helps illustrate barely anything. I literally dropped a mic as I spoke that final sentence. Unfortunately, it was a store product I hadn’t paid for sitting on the impulse buy rack near the checkout counter. They ended up making me pay for the broken microphone, so my total bill that day was ultimately higher than the original cost of the product I was trying to negotiate.

    Is It Worth Watching?: Yes (I’m talking about the movie now). I enjoyed Rocky very much! It was significantly better than my expectations!

    Final Thoughts: 7.5/10 Crowns, give or take. I could see myself potentially adjusting my rating on a second viewing. Dis Drawma Kingg was worried that I would dislike Rocky, and then readers would be mad at me when I gave my honest opinion. I didn’t expect to like the movie so much! Adrian was an amazingly acted character with so much depth! Rocky’s disposition (at least in this first movie) was also complex and human feeling. Other characters such as Apollo and Adrian’s brother felt refreshing in a somewhat realistic way too. Gotta go — I can’t tell if I am awake or asleep right now, yet I feel compelled to go play Hedgehog Quest on my Surrealdreamcaster video game console.

  • THE ODYSSEY 2026 Movie Review – Is It Worth Watching?

    Wait, so Spider-Man’s mom is Catwoman, and his dad is Matt Damon? Catwoman is a DC Universe character, whereas Matt Damon first appeared in the Kevin Smith Universe (if I remember correctly). Clown shows up from Spawn comics, which are published by Image. Also, we all know Robert Pattinson famously portrayed a superhero — from the David Cronenberg universe of course. I think his name was Limousine Man or something like that. If it’s not extremely clear already, I was ENTIRELY CONFUSED by the 2026 theatrical adaptation of The Odyssey!

    Dis Drawma Kingg wants to go on an odyssey of mine own now! All right, here I go! I’m moving right over there! Oh man, things are pretty insane over here! I think I should get out of this place and go over there! Things don’t seem to be too good over here either! Oh snap, Limousine Man and Brundlefly are chasing me! I think I’m in the Cronenberg Universe. I better get outta here before my body starts transforming!

    In addition to the strange convergence of superhero universes, The Odyssey was potentially a sequel to I’m on a boat by The Lonely Island. Let’s forget about all that weird stuff for a second though. I honestly did not think I was going to like this movie as I entered the experience. I am not particularly a fan of Christopher Nolan or Matt Damon. Both of them have had some likable movies though, so I couldn’t outrule the possibility of something worthwhile. To my delight, the filmmakers did excellent work here. I felt the movie started out a little slow, and I started to wonder if it was going to just be a lot of boring conversations. About 30 minutes in, everything starts to pick up with more action and interesting events taking shape. 

    Is It Worth Watching?: Yes, it was a completely solid film for the modern age!

    Final Thoughts: 8/10 Crowns. The Odyssey is a little bit difficult to decide on a specific rating. I could totally see somebody giving this a 9 or a 10. Perhaps the only reason the rating doesn’t go that high for me is that I wasn’t completely enthralled in the whole experience. I definitely liked it and particularly enjoyed the camera work and cinematography. The actors mostly delivered great performances too, no major complaints with anyone. I read The Odyssey many years ago and can’t remember it too well, but from what I can remember, Nolan’s version followed the general events of the book more closely than I anticipated. I mean that in a positive way. I didn’t really understand most of the movie’s intertwining superhero plots (especially how Catwoman had no romantic interest in Limousine Man), yet I was still able to enjoy watching it. Well that’s enough about somebody else’s odyssey. Back to my dramatic adventure — I’m gonna start going over there [points]. Because unless you’ve been over there, you don’t know what kind of stuff there might be!

  • NATIONAL LAMPOON’S ANIMAL HOUSE 1978 Movie Review – Is It Worth Watching?

    What kind of animals am I going to see in this house? If there’s a horse, I think I’ll make a song about where it is! Dis Drawma Kingg decided to write this first paragraph before watching National Lampoon’s Animal House. Will it be good? Will it be awful? I am hesitant to review this movie, because my intuition suggests it will be a “supposed” comedy that does not age well. Let’s jump into the movie-viewing rabbit hole and find out the chrooth! 

    There totally was a horse! And it was the best character by far! Animal House largely suffers due to the fact that none of the main human characters are likable. They also don’t seem to have any funny lines. The closest I came to laughing was from a few of the visual gags. Perhaps John Landis was trying to make a statement about college life in the 1970s, who could say? I imagined John Belushi would be somewhat funny. Sadly, his character only amounted to someone that was constantly doing weird and/or gross things. Even simplistic entertainment seemed entirely absent from this film.

    OK enough about that meaningless movie I’m sure I’ll never watch again. Let’s talk about something positive! This is the first episode since drawmakingg.com became one year old! That’s right, July 5 2026 was the one-year anniversary of my original post to the domain! Now in my second year as a self published writer and website owner, this thing could go anywhere! There could be future episodes with a total of six good jokes! I mean it’s possible, I don’t know if it will happen. Thank you so much to everyone who has read an episode or more of the drawmakingg.com archives! I know you’re wondering if I have gotten any wiser after one year and almost 70 episodes. I still believe I qualify as the man with the lowest IQ in bipedal human history. No need to worry about my works of writing getting any smarter. I’d even give a guarantee, but I don’t charge people money to read my movie reviews or pictureless comic books. So I don’t really see what I would get out of having to guarantee anything.

    Is It Worth Watching?: Oh yeah, National Lampoon’s Animal House…no, I do not think it is worth watching at all. 

    Final Thoughts: 1/10 Crowns. I would probably give National Lampoon’s Animal House a fraction of a point (or maybe zero points) if it were not for the fact that Dis Drawma Kingg’s highly official Crown Rating System does not go below 1 point. 1 out of 10 is almost like saying zero on this scale though, so it all works out. Did people actually like this movie when it came out? I have seen plenty of movies from the 70s and earlier. There definitely were a lot of excellent films that already came out by this era. It’s not like society didn’t have anything good to compare to. Well anyway, I’m being a little more negative than I usually try to be. I just honestly didn’t like this movie at all. Although I go on plenty of tangents and make up non-sequitur stories in many episodes of this soap opera called Drawma Kingg, I am always honest about the number I give the Crown Rating and my actual opinion of each movie I review. I would not lie about those things, because I wish to maintain my integrity (assuming I have some) as a movie critic!
